TJ’s Story

TJ Garcia is a four year old boy who is the son of Desiree, one of the dedicated staff members of Stewards Inc. Not long after his 3rd birthday on August 8, 2009 TJ began to get very sick.  His parents took him to the doctor and it was then they found a tumor the size of a golf ball on his brain.  It has been an immediate and heart wrenching life change for the Garcia family.  This was a parent’s worse fears come true. 

TJ was immediately flown, by helicopter, to the Valley Children’s Hospital near Fresno, California and then transferred to a hospital in San Francisco, where the Garcia family temporarily lived.  On that single day their family was taken away from their jobs and their families. The high spirits of this family, however, has been and still is astounding. Desiree repeats over and over again that “everything happens for a reason”.  They held on to hope and the prayers of others to make it through day by day.

As of February 24, 2011, the doctors finally said that it was safe to say that TJ is in remission. Even though TJ is in remission he is not completely “out of the woods” until five years after the date of his surgery, which will be September 4, 2014. Currently, the Garcia family still returns to San Francisco every two months for TJ's follow up appointments.
